Valiant based models and versions
from 1960 to 1976
Summary
The Valiant started life in 1960 with two models: V100 and V200, renamed Valiant 100 and Valiant 200 respectively in 1962, and joined by the Signet in the same year. These remained the three models until 1965, when the Barracuda, originally a Signet version for 1964, became a model in its own right. In 1961 and 1962 Dodge sold rebadged Valiants under the name Lancer, and from 1963, used the Valiant plateform for its Dart models.
In 1967 a major redesign of the car was carried out. The Valiant 200 was definitively dropped, and the name became a decor group for the Valiant 100. This was also the year the wagon versions of the 100 and 200 were definitevely abandonned. In 1970, the Valiant 100 became simply Valiant, the Signet was dropped, while the Duster was created from the Dodge Dart Swinger introduced the previous year. and the Barracuda ceased to be Valiant based. The following year, the Scamp was created (together with its clone the Dodge Dart Demon) and the Duster became a Valiant version. From then on, Valiant, Duster and Scamp were the only models from 1971 to 1974. The Brougham was created in 1974 but dropped the following year. There were eight versions of the Valiant in 1975, and only four in 1976, when it was sold alongside the all new Volare, the car that was to finally replace the Valiant in 1977.
A total of 4,040,936 Valiant were manufactured, all models and versions (but not including Dodge models). With 249243 units, the 1973 Duster fastback coupe is the largest production of all versions. The most enduring version is the Valiant 100 4 door sedan, which was offered every year from 1960 to 1976.
